Joseph E. Kirby age 88 of Marion passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Marion Pointe. Born in Marion, March 18, 1921 to the late James L. and Goldie (Clements) Kirby. Joe was a WW II Army Veteran. He was custodian at Marion Catholic High School until his retirement in 1989 and was still active as a volunteer. On June 20, 1953 Joe married Edith M. (Miller) Kirby at St. Mary Church, they were married by Fr. Spickerman and Joe's brother Father James W. Kirby.
His wife, Edith survives along with one son Thomas J. (Suzanne) Kirby of Mt Gilead, one daughter Ann (Michael) Hood of Ada, seven grandchildren; Shaun, Chelsey and Kelly Hood and Kyle, Carrie, Clint and Cole Kirby and one great grandchild Ryleigh Hood. Preceding Joe in death are two brothers Richard Kirby and Father James Kirby.
. Family will receive friends from 4:00 PM till 8:00 PM Friday, November 27, 2009 at Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors. Parish prayers will be held at 4:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday November 28, 2009 with Father Michael Nimocks Officiating. A private burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Marion Catholic High School.
