Fairfax Claffey
Born on July 6, 1924
Died on March 15, 2010

Fairfax (Bud) Claffey age 85 of Marion went to be with his Lord Monday, March 15, 2010. He was born in Richwood July 6, 1924 to the late Harry and Marybelle (McFadden) Claffey. Bud married Patricia (Altenburger) Claffey in 1950 who preceded him in death in 1968.

He is survived by his  wife Norma Jean (Cook) Claffey whom he married in 1984, one son Larry william (Kathy) Claffey of Mt Gilead, one daughter Lori (Paul) Swartz of Marion, step children Sheri Cassidy of Raleigh, N.C., Linda (Mike) Schurch of Marion, Connie Cook of Menlo Park, CA., Robyn Cook of Weaverville, N.C., grandchildren Scott (Janice) Claffey, Jason Claffey, Patti (Brent) Peterson, Monica Tobin, step grandchildren, Shannon (Emily) Davis, Isaiah and Hannah Schurch, Betsy and Katie Cassidy, great granddaughters Haley Claffey and Payton Peterson, sister Nancy Pugh Kirkpatrick, also a number of nieces and nephews. Bud is preceded in death by two sons, Michael Douglas and Mark Edward, brothers Larry (Nina) Claffey and Harry (Helen) Claffey, sisters Irene (Jim) Wygle and Marie (Kenneth) Gerbes. Bud was in the Navy WW II from 1944-1946 on the cruiser, USS Nashville.

He spent six months in a hospital in Sydney, Australia with a leg injury. Bud was a welder for 38 years at Marion Power Shovel. He was an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed crafting gifts for relatives and friends. He enjoyed daily workouts at the YMCA. He was a long time member of Emanuel Lutheran Church and a member of VFW 7201, DAV and YMCA. Bud never met a stranger, or was mischievous and loved a good laugh. He will be missed by all who knew him.






A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, March 19, 2010 at 10:00 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church 241 South Prospect St Marion. Burial will follow in Marion Cemetery with Military Honors Conducted by Marion County United Veterans Council. Memorial contributions may be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church of Hospice of Marion General Hospital.
