M.H Gunder graduated from the Cincinnati School of Embalming and began working in the funeral business by heading up the undertaking department of H. Shaffner Co. of Marion in 1906. He decided to go off on his own and built a state-of-the-art building in 1910. This building is still in use as the Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Home.

M.H. Gunder's sons, Gene and Don, joined the business after graduating from the Cincinnati School of Embalming in 1932 and 1936 respectively.
After the deaths of M.H. Gunder and Gene Gunder, Larry Hall joined the Gunder funeral home after having been involved with the business for many years prior.
In the early 1980's, Dave Folk then became part of the business and it became known as what it is today - Gunder/Hall & Folk Funeral Directors.
The business has recently been joined by the great-grandson of M.H. Gunder and grandson of Gene Gunder, Kurt Gunder, a 1995 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and an Honorably Discharged Air Force Veteran.
